Halloween bash has special benefit!

The nonprofit supports military, police and service dogs as well as spay and neuter vouchers, animal rescue groups and no-kill shelters.

Funds raised at this year’s Halloween party are earmarked for the DDamien Project, a California charity focused on providing homes for retired working dogs. They specialize in former military and law enforcement dogs that are not able to be adopted due to behavioral or medical reasons.

“Unfortunately, not all dogs after service are fit for what we consider a regular home,” said Krystal Tronboll, founder and president of the DDamien Project. “Some working dogs struggle with normal dog issues like not getting along with other dogs or animals, not doing well with children, or can be destructive when left to their own activities in the house.

“Due to the nature of their training backgrounds and breeding for high intensity and prey drive, these issues can be very daunting to a home with no dog handler experience.”

Saturday’s party at Studio Channel Islands will be catered by Scooters BBQ and entertainment will be provided by Soul Infusions. Tickets are $30 general admission and $25 for seniors, teachers, military, police and firefighters.

Tronboll said proceeds from the party will help the nonprofit care for retired dogs at its 10- acre ranch in rural San Diego County.

“This year alone we have spent more than $15,000 on emergency surgeries, annual vet care, lab work and physical therapy,” she said. “We do everything we can to offer them the best retirement life we can with amazing beds, toys and environmental enrichment opportunities.”

Since 2008, Ddamien Project has adopted 18 dogs from military bases and police departments across the U.S., Tronboll said.

Currently they have eight dogs in their care with two more on the way.
